Job Title: Teaching Assistant - Autism Support
We are looking for a caring, calm and committed teaching assistant to work full-time with a 10-year-old student in Year 6 who has autism and needs one-to-one support throughout the school day. The role is based in a mainstream primary school in Manchester, and you'll be joining a supportive team that works hard to create a positive and nurturing learning environment. What you will be doing… In this role, you will provide consistent one-to-one support for a Year 6 pupil with autism, helping them stay engaged and focused during lessons by offering appropriate breaks and support when things become overwhelming. You will implement strategies to manage sensory sensitivities, particularly in relation to noise and busy environments, and support the pupil’s emotional wellbeing by helping them manage anxiety and behaviours, including moments when they feel the urge to leave the classroom. Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and other professionals, you will follow a tailored support plan designed to meet the student’s individual needs. A key part of your role will be helping the pupil build confidence, develop independence, and form positive relationships with peers. Throughout the day, you will maintain clear boundaries, consistent routines, and a calm, reassuring presence to create a safe and supportive environment. The ideal candidate… Experience working with children with autism and severe learning difficulties is desirable for this role, though not essential. You should be patient, calm, and capable of building a positive and trusting relationship with the student. A willingness to use behaviour management techniques and communication aids is important, as is a genuine passion for making a meaningful difference in the life of a child with special educational needs. While prior experience in a similar role or educational setting would be beneficial, it is not a strict requirement for the position. About the school… This specialist school caters to students with severe learning difficulties and autism, offering a highly personalised and compassionate approach to care and education. The school places a strong emphasis on understanding and meeting each student’s individual needs, ensuring they receive the support necessary to thrive. Staff work collaboratively in a supportive team environment, sharing expertise and strategies to create the best possible learning experiences. The school maintains a calm and nurturing atmosphere, purposefully designed to support students' development and promote a sense of safety and wellbeing. What we offer… You will have access to free training opportunities through The National College, helping you to enhance your skills and stay up to date with best practices in education. A free safeguarding qualification is also provided to ensure you are well-prepared to support children safely and effectively. This role offers valuable experience working with children with autism and severe learning difficulties, making it an excellent opportunity for those looking to develop their career in special educational needs. You’ll be part of a supportive and friendly team, working collaboratively to provide the best outcomes for students. The role offers competitive daily pay, with rates of up to £104.

If you are interested, then please click on the apply button and contact Laurene Pierrot on 0161 529 9200 l Ext: 5013.

If you are not interested in this role but know someone else who might be, don't forget that we offer £50 in shopping vouchers if you refer a friend to us and we place them in the job. For more details, contact your local Axcis office.

This is a temporary position, unless stated otherwise.

Axcis is an equal opportunities employer and as such we do not discriminate based on age, gender, disability, race or any other equal opportunities criteria.

The company is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

As such, you will be required to provide an up to date DBS, or be prepared to allow Axcis to process one on your behalf, in addition to other mandatory compliance checks in line with the DfE guidelines (for details please see our website).

Axcis Education is an employment agency offering temporary supply work for daily, short-term and long-term assignments in addition to permanent positions.

You must be suitably qualified for the position advertised and be prepared to attend a face to face interview with Axcis to demonstrate your suitability for this role.

Salary / Pay Rate will be dependent on your skills and experience.

View the disclaimer

Contact: Laurene Pierrot

Telephone: 0161 529 9200 l Ext: 5013
