Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant
Croydon, South London From Tuesday 1st September. 8:30am – 4pm (Term Time Only). Temp to Perm. From £92.63 per day. Axcis Education are looking for a teaching assistant available for a full-time, long-term position from Tuesday 1st September. This is a diverse and vibrant primary school, located very close to public transport links in Croydon. This teaching assistant role will involve working on a 1:1 basis with a KS1 boy who has autism and limited speech. As the child’s verbal communication is limited, the ability and knowledge of Makaton or PECS is essential for this role. The school welcome applicants with previous experience in a similar role or transferrable skills. Duties of the role include: • Providing dedicated 1:1 support to a student with ASD and limited communication. • Assisting the pupil with emotional regulation, lesson engagement and behavioural management. • Calmly and effectively dealing with challenging behaviours and situations. • Communicating effectively using Makaton signing or PECS. The successful candidate will have: • Previous experience supporting pupils with SEND needs in a classroom setting. • The ability to use Makaton or PECS for communication. • Resilience when faced with challenging situations. • Patience and enthusiasm when working with young people with ASD. • Relevant Teaching Assistant or SEND qualifications are desirable.
