Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant
Are you an experienced professional with a passion for supporting individuals with additional needs? Are you ready to make a real difference in a child’s educational journey? A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Plymouth is seeking a dedicated SEN Support Assistant to join their team from September.
This rewarding role offers a daily rate of £90-£95 and the opportunity to work closely with pupils requiring tailored support, particularly those with challenging behaviour and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). If you have the experience, empathy, and resilience to work one-to-one and help pupils overcome barriers to learning, we want to hear from you.
About the Role:
As an SEN Support Assistant, you will be working predominantly on a 1:1 basis, supporting pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). Your role will involve helping these pupils to access the curriculum, develop social and communication skills, and build confidence in a structured, supportive environment.
While classroom experience is desirable, it is not essential – we welcome applications from individuals with relevant experience in other settings, such as youth work, care, residential support, or therapeutic environments.
This is a full-time position starting in September, and could suit someone looking to further their career in education or transition into a school-based role from a care or support background.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Proven experience working with children or adults with challenging behaviour and/or ASD
The ability to build positive, consistent relationships with pupils
Strong behaviour management and communication skills
A patient, nurturing, and proactive approach
Flexibility and the capacity to adapt to changing situations
An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
Why Join This School?
A friendly, supportive, and inclusive primary school environment
Opportunities for ongoing training and development
A chance to make a tangible difference in a child’s life
Consistent support from a dedicated leadership team and SENDCo
Whether you’re a seasoned SEN professional or you bring valuable experience from a different setting, this could be the perfect opportunity to make a meaningful impact and grow your career in a Plymouth primary school that truly values its support staff.
