If so... I WANT TO TALK TO YOU IMMEDIATELY!! … Because I'm looking for an LSA to join an innovative and wonderful school in the heart of Ashton-Under-Lyne, Tameside. WHAT IS AN LSA/TA? A Learning Support Assistant (LSA), often referred to as a Teaching Assistant (TA), is provided to support teachers and pupils in the classroom. LSAs/TAs work with all students, not only those with SEN. LSAs/TAs that work with students with SEN help those students individually to meet the targets set in their Individual Education Plan. WHAT DOES AN LSA/TA DO? The duties of an LSA/TA working with children with SEN are varied depending on the child's SEN and the type of school that they are working in, to help them with their literacy and numeracy, as well as other tasks. Generally, they will give the child any extra support they require to complete tasks. WHAT IT TAKES - SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: YOU'LL NEED: - sensitivity and understanding - patience and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations - to enjoy working with other people - the ability to accept criticism and work well under pressure - to be flexible and open to change - excellent verbal communication skills - knowledge of teaching and the ability to design courses - knowledge of psychology - to be able to carry out basic tasks on a computer or hand-held device WHAT YOU'LL DO - DAY-TO-DAY TASKS: IN THIS ROLE YOU COULD BE: - preparing learning materials under the supervision of the teacher - working inside or outside the classroom with individuals or groups - adapting support according to needs - looking after children's physical, social and emotional welfare - creating a stimulating environment - giving information and help to teachers - keeping records and attending review meetings WORKING ENVIRONMENT: - LSAs can work 1:1 with a student or with a small group of students. In secondary schools, there is sometimes also a separate learning support department where LSAs/TAs can work with individuals or small groups away from the classroom on work that complements the work being done in the classroom. So you must be comfortable supporting small groups and large classes where necessary.
