SEND Teaching Assistant – Primary (Year 4/5) Full-Time | Start ASAP | Long-Term Opportunity We are seeking a committed, confident and energetic SEND Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and well-resourced primary setting. This role involves working within a small class of pupils with Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD) and complex needs, and would suit someone who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs in a practical, hands-on environment. You will be supporting pupils in Year 4 or Year 5, many of whom are non-verbal and have sensory needs. The role requires a strong understanding of SEND and the ability to adapt support to meet individual needs. Familiarity with alternative communication approaches such as PECS, Makaton, visual timetables or other AAC strategies would be highly beneficial, as would confidence supporting sensory regulation throughout the school day. This is an active and rewarding role that requires high energy, patience and emotional resilience. Pupils are lively and curious, so you will need to be physically active, alert and able to match their pace. You will work closely with the class teacher and wider support team to deliver tailored learning activities, support behaviour positively and help create a calm, structured and engaging environment where pupils can thrive. The school offers small class sizes, excellent specialist resources and a strong emphasis on teamwork and collaboration. Staff are well supported and the setting places real value on inclusive practice and high-quality SEND provision. This is a full-time position, working Monday to Friday from 8:45am to 3:45pm, with the potential to become a long-term or permanent role for the right candidate. We are keen to hear from candidates who: • Have a strong background supporting children with SEND • Are confident working with pupils with MLD, complex needs and sensory profiles • Have worked with non-verbal children or are confident using alternative communication strategies • Are proactive, energetic and able to remain calm in a fast-paced environment • Can build positive, trusting relationships with pupils, staff and families If you are looking for a meaningful role where you can make a genuine difference to pupils’ daily lives, this is an excellent opportunity to join a supportive and dedicated team.
