Location: Central Bristol Contract: Permanent (Direct school contract) Start Date: September 2026 Hours: Full-time (40 hours per week), term-time only Salary: From £38,000 per annum Axcis Education are working in partnership with a specialist Alternative Provision in central Bristol to recruit a SENCo with teaching responsibilities for a September start. This is a permanent position, with the successful candidate employed directly by the school. The provision supports Key Stage 4 pupils (11–16) with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, alongside additional barriers to learning including ADHD, communication difficulties, and trauma-related needs. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced SEND professional who is ready to take a strategic leadership role within a highly supportive, trauma-informed environment. ________________________________________ About the Role The SENCo will play a key leadership role in shaping and developing SEND provision across the school, while also undertaking some teaching responsibilities (approximately 0.4). Key responsibilities include: • Leading the strategic development of SEND policy and provision across the school • Overseeing EHCPs, annual reviews, provision mapping and referrals • Working closely with external agencies, local authorities, and families • Managing and supporting the SEND team, including Teaching Assistants • Contributing to whole-school leadership, safeguarding, and inclusion strategies • Delivering and modelling trauma-informed, relational approaches • Supporting staff training, CPD and INSET delivery • Ensuring high-quality interventions and targeted support are in place for learners • Maintaining a strong focus on engagement, behaviour, and student wellbeing • Teaching KS4 learners as part of a reduced timetable ________________________________________ The Ideal Candidate We are looking for someone who has: • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) • Experience working with SEMH and additional needs, ideally within Alternative Provision or similar settings • Strong knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice • Leadership or whole-school SEND experience • The ability to build strong relationships with young people, families, and professionals • A calm, resilient, and solution-focused approach • The National Award for SEN Coordination (or willingness to complete within 2 years) ________________________________________ Why Apply? • Permanent role with direct school contract • Competitive salary starting from £38,000 • Opportunity to shape and lead SEND provision at a strategic level • Trauma-informed, supportive and values-driven environment • Ongoing CPD, training, and clinical supervision • Strong leadership and collaborative team culture ________________________________________ If you are an experienced SEN professional looking for a meaningful leadership opportunity within Alternative Provision, we would love to hear from you.
