Axcis Education is seeking a Full-Time Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Salisbury that supports children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This exciting opportunity is ideal for candidates with experience in special educational needs (SEN), behaviour support, autism, ADHD, or trauma-informed practice.
As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in helping pupils overcome barriers to learning, build confidence, regulate emotions, and develop positive relationships within a supportive educational environment.
Key Responsibilities
Provide 1:1 Teaching Assistant support and small-group interventions.
Support pupils with SEMH needs, autism spectrum condition (ASC), ADHD, and trauma-related needs.
Help students access learning and remain engaged throughout the school day.
Implement positive behaviour management strategies and emotional regulation techniques.
Encourage independence, communication skills, social development, and emotional wellbeing.
Work closely with teachers, therapists, and other education professionals to deliver personalised support plans.
Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to promote confidence and success.
Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment.
Requirements
Previous experience working with children or young people in a school, care, youth work, residential, or support setting.
Experience supporting individuals with SEMH, SEND, autism, ADHD, or behavioural needs is highly desirable.
Calm, patient, and resilient approach to challenging situations.
Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
Passion for inclusive education and helping young people achieve their potential.
Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
