Job Title: Primary SEMH Teacher (KS2)
SEMH Primary Teacher | Specialist SEND School (KS2 Focus) Location: South Gloucestershire Contract Type: Full-Time | Permanent Opportunity | September Start Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience (MPS/UPS equivalent) Are you a teacher who believes every child deserves the chance to succeed, no matter their starting point? Axcis Education is working in partnership with a highly respected specialist SEMH school to recruit a passionate and resilient Primary Teacher for a September start. This is a unique opportunity to join a nurturing, therapeutic learning environment where relationships are at the heart of everything. You’ll be teaching pupils who have experienced significant barriers to education, and who need consistency, patience, and a deeply relational approach to rediscover a love of learning. If you are someone who thrives on making a real difference, who sees behaviour as communication, and who believes in the power of connection before curriculum, this role could be exactly what you’re looking for. About the Role As an SEMH Primary Teacher, you will lead a small class of Key Stage 2 pupils with complex Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, often alongside additional diagnoses such as Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, attachment difficulties and trauma-related needs. Your role will focus on creating a safe, predictable and engaging learning environment where pupils can begin to rebuild trust in education. You will be responsible for planning and delivering a highly differentiated curriculum that is accessible, engaging and tailored to individual needs. Lessons will often need to be flexible, creative and responsive, balancing academic progress with emotional regulation, relationship-building and personal development. You will work closely with a skilled team of Teaching Assistants, therapists, behaviour support staff and senior leaders to develop consistent approaches that support each child’s progress. A strong emphasis is placed on positive behaviour support, de-escalation strategies and trauma-informed practice. You will also play a key role in tracking progress, contributing to EHCP targets and working collaboratively with wider professionals and families to ensure joined-up support for every pupil. About the School This specialist provision is part of a nationally recognised group of SEMH schools known for their therapeutic, relationship-led approach to education. The school provides a highly structured yet nurturing environment where pupils are supported to re-engage with learning at a pace that meets their individual needs. Class sizes are small, allowing for highly personalised teaching and strong adult-pupil relationships. The ethos is built around connection, consistency and compassion. Staff work as part of a wider multi-disciplinary team, including therapists and behaviour specialists, ensuring that both educational and emotional needs are fully supported. There is a strong focus on long-term outcomes, independence and preparing pupils for the next stage of their education, with an emphasis on rebuilding confidence, self-esteem and trust in adults and learning environments. What We're Looking For We are seeking a qualified Primary Teacher with experience or a strong interest in working within SEMH, SEND or alternative provision settings. You may already be working in a specialist school, PRU, mainstream inclusion unit or have experience supporting pupils with challenging behaviour, trauma backgrounds or additional learning needs. The ideal candidate will bring: * A strong understanding of SEMH, trauma-informed practice and attachment-aware approaches * The ability to build meaningful, trusting relationships with pupils who may have experienced educational disruption * Experience in adapting curriculum content to meet a wide range of learning needs * Confidence in managing challenging behaviour using positive, consistent and relational strategies * A calm, reflective and resilient teaching style * A commitment to inclusive education and high expectations for all learners Experience with ASD, ADHD, de-escalation techniques or restorative approaches would be highly beneficial. An understanding of EHCPs and working within a multidisciplinary team is also desirable. Why Join Axcis Education? As the UK’s leading SEND recruitment specialist, Axcis works with exceptional schools that are committed to transforming the lives of children with additional needs. You will benefit from competitive pay, ongoing support from a dedicated consultant and access to a wide range of specialist SEND opportunities. Through our partnership with The National College, you will also receive free access to high-quality CPD training covering SEMH, trauma-informed practice, behaviour management, autism awareness, attachment theory and inclusive teaching strategies. All training is CPD-certified and designed to support your professional growth. This is an ideal opportunity for teachers who are passionate about inclusive education and want to work in a setting where relationships truly come first.
