Job Title: PMLD Teaching Assistant
PMLD Teaching Assistant (Primary) | From £89/day | Tower Hamlets | ASAP Start | Full Time | Long Term Supply Axcis are currently recruiting for a caring and proactive teaching assistant to join a fantastic primary school in Tower Hamlets supporting children with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD). The school is well-resourced, with sensory rooms, soft play areas and outdoor spaces tailored to young learners’ needs. Easily accessible by public transport and with parking available on site, the school is praised for its supportive staff and nurturing ethos. In this role, you will be: • Supporting primary-aged pupils with PMLD on a 1:1 basis or in small groups, helping them engage in sensory play, early communication and life skills activities. • Assisting with personal care tasks such as feeding, toileting and changing, using a person-centred and respectful approach. • Working closely with teachers and therapists to deliver individual learning and care plans tailored to each child’s developmental stage. • Using visual and sensory communication tools such as PECS, Makaton or tactile symbols to support understanding and interaction. • Creating a calm and consistent environment to help children feel safe and engaged, using positive behaviour support strategies throughout the day. What we are looking for: • Previous experience working with children with complex needs, ideally in a school, nursery or care setting. • Confidence with personal care duties and an understanding of safeguarding and hygiene procedures. • Familiarity with communication tools and sensory-based learning strategies. • A warm, patient and playful approach suited to supporting very young or non-verbal children.
