Job Title: PMLD Teaching Assistant
PMLD Teaching Assistant (Secondary) | From £89/day | Tower Hamlets | ASAP Start | Full Time | Long Term Supply Axcis are working with a welcoming and well-equipped secondary special school in Tower Hamlets to recruit a dedicated Teaching Assistant to support students with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD). The school offers access to excellent facilities including hydrotherapy, a life skills suite, and multi-sensory environments. Conveniently located with good public transport links and parking onsite, this setting is highly regarded by staff and families alike. In this role, you will be: • Supporting secondary-aged pupils with PMLD in their learning, personal development and preparation for adulthood. • Assisting with personal care tasks such as hoisting, feeding and toileting, ensuring dignity and comfort are maintained at all times. • Working alongside teachers and therapists to implement education and care plans that meet each student’s complex physical, cognitive and sensory needs. • Encouraging independence and communication through assistive technologies, Makaton, switches, Eye Gaze and other specialist tools. • Promoting a calm and structured environment, using positive behaviour management strategies and consistent routines to support wellbeing. What we are looking for: • Experience working with young people with high support needs in schools, care, or medical settings. • Comfortable with manual handling and personal care duties (training provided if needed). • Knowledge of assistive technology and alternative communication methods is a plus. • A mature, empathetic and resilient approach to working with non-verbal students and those with complex medical or physical conditions.
