Contract Type: Full-time, long-term (term-time only)
Pay: From £14.25 per hour (approx. 35 hours per week, Monday–Friday)

About the Role
As a Specialist SEMH Learning Support Assistant, you’ll play a vital role in helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential. Working closely with teaching staff and therapists, your day-to-day may include:
Providing 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH and additional needs such as ASD
Supporting emotional regulation, behaviour management, and social development
Helping to deliver tailored learning activities both in and outside the classroom
Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils to promote engagement and progress
Encouraging independence, confidence, and resilience
This is a highly rewarding SEN Teaching Assistant role where your patience, empathy, and consistency will have a lasting impact.
About the School/Setting
You’ll be working in a specialist, nurturing school environment in North Bristol, part of a well-established and respected multi-school group dedicated to supporting children with complex needs.
The setting provides a structured yet caring approach, with a strong emphasis on emotional wellbeing, personalised learning, and therapeutic support. Staff are supported by a collaborative leadership team and benefit from a welcoming, inclusive culture.

What We’re Looking For
We’d love to hear from you if you are:
A university student (e.g., UWE or University of Bristol) on a placement year, ideally studying psychology, education, or a related field
Passionate about working with children with Special Educational Needs, particularly SEMH
Patient, empathetic, and resilient, with a genuine desire to support young people
A strong communicator and team player who can build positive relationships
Essential:
Experience supporting children or young people with SEND/SEMH (paid, voluntary, or personal)
Willingness to obtain (or already hold) an enhanced DBS
Desirable:
Experience working with Autism (ASC) or challenging behaviour
Team Teach training (or willingness to undertake training)
Relevant qualifications or modules linked to SEND
