HLTA – SEND | From £115/day | Havering | September Start | Full Time | Long Term
Axcis are working with a welcoming primary SEND school in Havering, who are looking for a confident and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join their team in September. The school supports pupils with a wide range of needs including autism, complex learning needs, and sensory difficulties. Just a short walk from local bus routes and with free parking on site, the school is easily accessible from Romford, Hornchurch and Upminster.
This well-established provision has been praised by Ofsted for its strong staff teamwork, therapeutic approach and focus on pupil independence. You’ll be joining a collaborative and positive staff community that really puts children first.
In this role, you will be:
• Leading group activities and occasionally stepping in to cover lessons in the teacher’s absence.
• Supporting pupils with SEND through differentiated learning and consistent routines.
• Working closely with class teachers and the SENCo to track progress against EHCP outcomes.
• Supporting the use of communication tools like PECS, Makaton or visual schedules.
• Encouraging pupil independence while supporting emotional regulation and classroom engagement.
What we are looking for:
• HLTA status or significant classroom-based experience with SEND pupils.
• Previous experience in a special or mainstream primary setting.
• A nurturing and flexible approach, with a good understanding of autism and complex needs.
• Confidence working independently with small groups or whole classes.
