Job Title: Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – Alternative Provision
Location: Central Bristol
Contract: Permanent
Hours: Full-time (40 hours per week), term-time only (plus 7 additional days in school holidays as per Bristol City Council term dates)
Salary: £26,000 – £27,690 per annum (depending on experience)
Axcis Education are working in partnership with a specialist Alternative Provision in central Bristol to recruit a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) for a permanent, full-time position.

About the Role
As an HLTA, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to support teaching and learning across the provision. You will play a key role in delivering targeted interventions and supporting pupils both in and out of the classroom.
Key responsibilities include:
• Planning and delivering small group learning activities and interventions
• Supporting 1:1 learning support where required
• Working alongside teachers and SEN staff to improve pupil engagement and outcomes
• Supporting pupils with SEMH needs, emotional regulation, and behaviour
• Using trauma-informed approaches to promote positive learning experiences
• Contributing to assessment, monitoring, and progress tracking
• Supporting inclusion, independence, and self-esteem
• Providing feedback on pupil progress to teaching and SEN teams
• Assisting with pastoral support and behaviour strategies

The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who:
• Has experience working with children or young people with SEMH or additional needs
• Holds HLTA status or equivalent qualification (or is willing to work towards accreditation)
• Has strong literacy and numeracy skills (GCSE Grade 4/C or above or equivalent)
• Is confident delivering interventions and small group teaching
• Can build strong, positive relationships with vulnerable learners
• Is calm, resilient, and proactive in managing challenging situations
• Is passionate about inclusive education and improving outcomes for young people
