Location: Exeter, Devon Contract: Full-Time, Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM Start Date: September Are you a qualified teacher with a passion for supporting young people with additional needs? A specialist school in Exeter is expanding its team and looking for a dedicated classroom teacher to join them from September. This full-time opportunity is ideal for someone with experience in either primary or secondary education, as students are grouped based on ability rather than age. This school supports learners aged 11–16 who are no longer in mainstream education. All students have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and often present with autism and high anxiety. The environment is structured yet nurturing, offering therapeutic spaces like a wellbeing room, a social hub, and specialist facilities including a large art studio and designated cooking and P.E. areas. About the Role: Deliver core subjects to small groups (up to 6 students per class), working with support from two learning mentors. Plan and adapt lessons for students working at lower academic levels (typically Key Stage 3). Make the most of regular PPA time built into your week. Create a calm, inclusive, and engaging learning environment where students feel safe and supported. Collaborate with a supportive team to tailor the curriculum to suit individual learner needs. The school encourages a personalised and creative teaching approach. Students are taught the national curriculum, but with flexibility to allow for social, emotional, and therapeutic growth. Staff are encouraged to bring their own interests and experiences into their teaching to further enrich school life. Who We’re Looking For: A fully qualified teacher (QTS or equivalent). Previous experience with SEND or SEMH learners is an advantage. Teachers from either primary or secondary backgrounds are encouraged to apply. An understanding of trauma-informed practice, emotional regulation, and supporting neurodivergent learners. Someone committed to providing high-quality education while nurturing individual progress and personal development. Why Join This School? Small class sizes with strong support from additional staff. Purpose-built resources that promote wellbeing and creativity. A friendly and open school culture that values honesty, reflection, and staff wellbeing. Strong potential for long-term or permanent placement. Paid to teacher scale, with regular CPD and opportunities for growth.
