A lovely residential SEN school for children aged 6 to 19 with learning difficulties require an experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to start immediately.
Your role will be to work closely with the Class Teacher to provide effective teaching and be responsible for creating a therapeutic, safe, stimulating and supportive learning environment that enables the pupils to succeed in their learning.
You must be able to demonstrate empathy and professionalism in order to provide the support and guidance required to remove barriers from the pupils learning.
Occasionally you will be required to take on a learning mentor role if individual needs of pupils with BESD, demand avoidance and challenging behaviour who struggle to take part in conventional classroom learning with their peer group.
Team management experience is desirable as you will occasionally be required to supervise and support Learning Support Assistants (LSAs).
The school is set in beautiful grounds near Thornbury and encompasses several residential houses for children and adults, a school building, indoor and outdoor craft workshops and a swimming pool. Adjacent is the schools farm, which provides organic produce for the community.
The ideal candidate with have a relevant qualification at Diploma or Degree level, experience of challenging behaviour and a knowledge of Steiner and Waldorf education. Hours are 42.5 hours/week, shift rotation, no nights, 11 weeks paid holiday including Bank Holiday.
