ASD Specialist Teaching Assistant – Full-Time ?? Location: Preston ?? Monday to Friday | Term-Time Only ?? Start Date: ASAP Are you passionate about supporting neurodiverse pupils? We're looking for a patient, empathetic and resilient ASD Specialist Teaching Assistant to join our team and make a real impact in the lives of young people with autism. This is a highly rewarding role for someone who understands the importance of routine, structure, and communication in helping autistic pupils feel safe, understood, and ready to learn. About the Role: You’ll work closely with teaching staff and SEN professionals to support students with ASD both in and out of the classroom. Your role may include: Providing 1:1 or small group support tailored to individual needs Helping pupils navigate the school day, manage transitions, and regulate emotions Adapting learning tasks and environments to reduce sensory overload Using communication tools such as PECS, visual timetables, or Makaton (training can be provided) Supporting with personal care and behaviour where needed We’re Looking For Someone Who: ? Has experience working with pupils on the autism spectrum ? Is calm, consistent, and can build trust through routine and reliability ? Understands sensory needs and the importance of visual communication ? Can work collaboratively with teachers, therapists and parents ? Has a compassionate, pupil-centred approach to behaviour Bonus If You Have: ?? A relevant SEN qualification or training in autism (e.g. TEACCH, PECS) ?? Experience supporting non-verbal or minimally verbal children ??
