Axcis are looking for a teaching assistant experienced in supporting young people present social and emotional mental health in young people. We have a role with a central Exeter based primary school supporting an individual while their current support assistant is on maternity leave. You will be expected to support this pupil within the classroom and help him gain confidence and independence while also working towards completing all school work. The pupil experiences SEMH on a regular basis and often needs additional support just to remain in the classroom.
The right candidate should have experience with mental health in young people and be able to form effective, professional bonds quickly. The school is a large all through school located in between EX4 and has a fantastic SEND department dedicated to providing support to students with both ASD and SEMH. In your role as a 1:1 support worker you will be expected to report back progress to the teacher and discuss with the schools SEND Co-ordinator any updates of important information about the pupil.
This role is to cover maternity leave for a permanent teaching assistant so is a temporary role. However, due to the school expanding and being part of a multi academy trust, this role could be extended further for the right candidate.
