Axcis have a vacancy for a teaching assistant at a well respected mainstream primary school in Worle working 1-1 with a child with Autism, aged 8. There is a long waiting list for places at the school and it is popular with our staff that work there.
Rated 'Good' by Ofsted, this fantastic school uses a range of innovative teaching methods to help their students make the most of their educational experience. The school is small but well resourced and has a fantastic atmosphere upon entering the grounds. It has a large modern sports hall and the children have the opportunity to do a range of sports and extra curricular activities such as chess club, art, music and film clubs. Situated in Worle and with excellent links to public transport the school is easily accessible.
The role starts immediately and is five days a week, full time and will go on till the end of term but potentially till the end of the academic year. You will be supporting the child in all of their studies helping them to understand the work that has been set them - you will need to have previous experience of working with children with autism. Routines are important to the child and they have very limited language and they communicate using Makaton and PECS. You will be expected to do some personal care.
If you are a caring, friendly and patient individual then this could be just the kind of role you're looking for. The ideal candidate will be an experienced SEND teaching assistant who has worked with children with autism before in a special needs environment. However you could have personal experience or have worked with adults with special needs. To be put forward for this role you will need to come in for a one hour registration meeting, we will need a valid DBS and a minimum of two references.
