Job Title: Teaching Assistant
Primary SEN Teaching Assistant Location: Wareham, Dorset Contract: Full-time, Monday to Friday Pay: £89 – £95 per day Start Date: January 2026 Do you want to inspire and support young learners every day? A welcoming mainstream primary school in Wareham is looking for a motivated SEN Teaching Assistant to join their KS2 team. You’ll provide focused 1:1 support, build confidence, and help pupils achieve their best every day. What You’ll Do • Deliver tailored 1:1 SEN support – Work closely with individual pupils to meet their unique learning needs, adapting teaching methods to suit different abilities and learning styles • Adapt learning plans alongside the class teacher – Collaborate with the class teacher to modify lessons, activities, and interventions so every pupil can succeed • Create a calm, positive, and engaging learning environment – Foster a safe and encouraging atmosphere where pupils feel supported and motivated to learn • Support communication, learning, and behaviour – Help pupils develop key communication and social skills while providing strategies to manage behaviour effectively • Encourage social skills and participation – Promote inclusion, teamwork, and confidence by engaging pupils in group activities and collaborative projects • Track pupil progress clearly and accurately – Maintain detailed records of achievements, challenges, and ongoing development to inform planning and reporting • Use behaviour-management strategies confidently – Implement positive reinforcement and structured approaches to support pupil well-being and classroom harmony • Prepare and adapt resources to meet individual needs – Create or modify learning materials and visual aids to ensure all pupils can access the curriculum successfully What We’re Looking For • Experience supporting children – Previous classroom or 1:1 experience is essential, with SEN experience highly desirable • Understanding of a range of SEN and how they affect learning – Knowledge of specific conditions such as autism, ADHD, and dyslexia, and how these can impact learning and social development • Strong communication and relationship-building skills – Ability to work collaboratively with pupils, teachers, parents, and external professionals • Patience, empathy, and resilience – A calm and compassionate approach that can adapt to challenging situations and varying pupil needs • A proactive, flexible team player – Willingness to take initiative, adapt to changing priorities, and contribute positively to the school team • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one) – Essential for safeguarding and working closely with children Why This Role?
