Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Needs Teacher specialising in autism to join our dynamic secondary school team in London. This is a vital role aimed at improving educational outcomes and providing tailored support for students with autism spectrum disorders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, deliver, and assess individualised and small group lessons that cater to the varied learning needs of students on the autism spectrum.
- Implement and adapt the curriculum to meet the specific needs of students with autism, utilising a range of teaching strategies and techniques.
- Foster a structured and supportive classroom environment that promotes learning and social inclusion.
- Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team including teaching assistants, educational psychologists, speech and language therapists, and parents to develop and implement effective Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Employ positive behavioural support strategies to manage challenging behaviours in a manner that respects the dignity of the student.
- Monitor and record student progress, adapting teaching methods as necessary to ensure the continued development of each child.
- Provide guidance and professional development to teaching assistants and support staff to enhance their skills when working with students with autism.
- Keep abreast of current best practices and emerging research in autism education.
- Engage with families and carers to create a partnership that supports the educational and emotional needs of students.
- Attend and contribute to staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
Ideal Candidate:
- Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in the UK.
- Demonstrates a strong understanding of the educational and social needs of students with autism spectrum disorders.
- Possesses experience in delivering tailored and differentiated curriculum to students with SEN, particularly with autism.
- Exhibits exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, able to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and families.
- Has a patient, resilient, and empathetic approach to teaching and learning.
- Is committed to ongoing professional development and open to incorporating innovative strategies into daily teaching practices.
