Primary Teacher - ASD - Jan 2019 | London - SE | SEN Teacher Jobs
My client are a three form entry primary school in the London Borough of Lewisham. They have an Autism Resource Base which is an integral part of the school and offers 16 places to pupils from across the borough who are on the autism spectrum.
About the ASD Base :
" 16 children come to the school via Lewisham's SEND group and must have a statement of educational need or an education and health care plan
" There are 2 classes: EYFS/KS1 and a KS2 class
" The children are attached to a mainstream class and join them for many activities depending on their needs
" They follow the EYFS and national curriculum which is broken down into small steps using a personalised approach, tailored to meet children's individual needs
" The base is a low arousal setting specially designed to create a harmonious environment for children with ASD
" The children have purpose built workstations to encourage the TEACCH approach and where they can work on individual tasks
" They use photos and symbols to support the children's language development
" Class timetables are used and many of the children have personal schedules to make their daily routine predictable and reduce anxiety
" They are supported by a Speech and Language Therapist who works with the class team
" There is a high level of experienced staff who have a positive approach to behaviour management and all staff are trained in TEAM TEACH ( you will be put on the course)
The school are now looking for a mainstream or SEND primary teacher who can teach the class from January 2019.
