Paula, Uruguay Teacher
Hi Paula, how many years experience do you have teaching in Uruguay?
I have only a year’s experience in Uruguay as the rest of my teaching career has been spent in the UK.
What made you want to teach in the UK?
I moved here with my husband.
Did you need a Visa? If so, what Visa are you on? How hard was it to get?
No, I have an Italian passport (from my grandfather) so I just got an EU passport.
When you arrived did you have friends/family to stay with?
My husband and I were living at the university residence where he was studying.
How have you found teaching in London? Good points?
Teaching here is very different from Uruguay (obviously as it is a very small country) there is much more involvement here.
What things should teachers be aware of when planning to come here?
Teachers from Uruguay must be prepared for lots more paperwork and time spent at school.
Have you any regrets?
No.
Have you done much travelling (if they have been here a while)? What destinations?
Yes, Quite funny actually as I went on holiday in South America, it’s very easy to travel from the UK.
Would you recommend the London experience to other Uruguay teachers? Why and what have you enjoyed?
Yes, I have enjoyed the professionalism here as well as the easy way of life compared to living in South America.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
No.
Thank you for your time Paula
