Marie, South African Teacher
Hi Marie, how many years experience do you have teaching in South Africa?
2.5 years.
What made you want to teach in the UK?
My husband and I decided we needed a change in scenery.
Did you need a Visa? If so, what Visa are you on? How hard was it to get?
My husband is on a work permit and I am on a spousal visa.
When you arrived did you have friends/family to stay with?
Yes.
How have you found teaching in London? Good points?
The kids here a bit more difficult than back home, but other than that it’s really the same.
What things should teachers be aware of when planning to come here?
Be aware that QTS can take a while to acquire.
Have you any regrets?
None at all.
Have you done much travelling (if they have been here a while)? What destinations?
Yes. It has been very easy to travel here. I have been to Amsterdam, Turkey, Greece…
Would you recommend the London experience to other South African teachers? Why and what have you enjoyed?
Yes, I have enjoyed the teaching experience because that’s what I do. I also enjoy the easier way of life here in the UK compared to SA.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
No.
Thank you for your time Marie
