Erna, South African Teacher
Ema, how many years experience do you have teaching in South Africa?
4 years.
What made you want to teach in the UK?
I was aware of the changes in the working holiday visa laws and took my chance while I was still able.
Did you need a Visa? If so, what Visa are you on? How hard was it to get?
Yes, working holiday visa, with the right paperwork and patience, not too hard!
When you arrived did you have friends/family to stay with?
Yes.
How have you found teaching in London? Good points?
The same as back home, except for maybe some behavioural issues.
What things should teachers be aware of when planning to come here?
That teaching here is a bit tougher the in SA.
Have you any regrets?
No.
Have you done much travelling (if they have been here a while)? What destinations?
Yes, I have been to Ireland and Scotland recently.
Would you recommend the London experience to other South African teachers? Why and what have you enjoyed?
Definitely, I have enjoyed the different methods of teaching as well as the experience that I'm gaining.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
No.
Thank you for your time Erna
