Primary Teacher Jobs
"Teaching is the profession that teaches all other professions" (Anon)
Primary teachers work with pupils aged 3-11 years and can specialise in EYFS (Nursery, Reception/Foundation stage), KS1 (Years 1-2/KS1) or KS2 (Years 3-6/KS2). As with any post teaching children up to 16 years, a full teaching qualification is required to work as a primary teacher along with QTS, and this entitles you to teach in state and independent schools.
These may be called Infant, Junior, Primary or Prep schools( in the Independent sector.) As a primary specialist you will have to deliver all areas of the curriculum to classes of between 20 and 30 mixed ability pupils in a average state school. However, you will usually have a main learning focus, eg Maths and may wish to progress your career as a Maths Lead Teacher for example.Primary school teachers develop schemes of work and lesson plans in line with curriculum objectives, and facilitate learning by establishing a relationship with pupils and by their use of learning resources and the classroom learning environment.
They may manage support staff like Nursery Nurses, Teaching Assistants and volunteers and will be expected to undertake ongoing CPD and work closely with other teachers and professionals, eg SENCOs, EWOs, social workers, parents and carers. The role provides the opportunity to positively effect the social development, skills and social abilities of young people. Teachers assess and record progress and prepare pupils for the Standard Assessment Tasks (SATs). They link pupils' knowledge to earlier learning and develop ways to encourage it further, and challenge and inspire pupils to help them deepen their knowledge and understanding.
