Suzanne, New Zealand Teacher

Hi Suzanne, you trained in New Zealand. How many years experience do you have teaching in New Zealand ?

5 years.

What made you want to teach in the UK?

I wanted to travel.

Did you need a Visa? If so, what Visa are you on? How hard was it to get?

I needed Working Holiday Visa. It was not difficult to get at all.

When you arrived did you have friends/family to stay with?

My sister-in-law was here. I stayed with her for one week before I started looking for my own my. She helped me out so it was pretty easy to find a place as she was familiar with the process and the area.

How have you found teaching in London? Good points?

I enjoy it, especially the current school that I am at.

What things should teachers be aware of when planning to come here?

That if you basically don’t get a job soon like in the first week or first month then it is more difficult to get a permanent position. You have to try and get placed either before you get here or at least very soon.

Have you any regrets?

No, I enjoy it here.

Have you done much travelling (if they have been here a while)? What destinations?

Yes. I’ve been to Switzerland, Germany, Italy, France, Luxembourg, Scotland, Wales, Turkey, Croatia, can’t remember the rest.

Would you recommend the London experience to other New Zealand teachers? Why and what have you enjoyed?

Yes. It’s so flexible, you can work a day here or a week there and you have the opportunity to make good money, cause the money is good.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

No, just that Axcis is the best.

Thank you for your time Suzanne
