Strephania, Malta Teacher
Hi Strephania, how many years experience do you have teaching in Malta?
Hello, I trained in Malta and have 1 year’s experience.
What made you want to teach in the UK?
I am a professional cyclist and my boyfriend was transferred to the UK. I also needed to be closer to my coach.
Did you need a Visa? If so, what Visa are you on? How hard was it to get?
No, I have an EU passport.
When you arrived did you have friends/family to stay with?
No, I had no family or friends as such. Just my boyfriend and my coach.
If not, how did you arrange your accommodation? What sources did you use? How difficult was it?
I used an estate agent and it only took me 3 days to find an apartment.
How have you found teaching in London? Good points?
The teachers here are required to be much stricter than in Malta. I have found that behavioural management is more important than knowledge.
What things should teachers be aware of when planning to come here?
Be aware and prepare all your documents especially your CRB check. It is a long process and can be very frustrating at times.
Have you any regrets?
Yeah, I didn’t have all my documents at first and since I had a bad fall a while ago and broke my arm, I haven’t been teaching for a while.
Have you done much travelling (if they have been here a while)? What destinations?
Yeah, most of England and Ireland. Oh. And I’ve been home of course!
Would you recommend the London experience to other Malta teachers? Why and what have you enjoyed?
Yes, I think that while you are young you should see and do as much as you can.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
No.
Thank you for your time Strephania
