General Teaching Assistant needed in a Secondary School in Taunton - Somerset - Role: SEN TA Jobs
Axcis are currently seeking a general teaching assistant to support students in mainstream lessons at a secondary school in Taunton.
The school is a high performing, over subscribed school within central Taunton. They have large, supportive SEN department, with specific teaching assistants who support students in each year group and those with specific needs such as SEMH needs. They can offer in house training and a supportive working environment.
They are currently seeking a general teaching assistant. The role would include general in class support with key SEN students across the curriculum, some one to one work would also be expected at times.
Ideal candidates will have experience of the secondary curriculum and working with students with a range of SEND needs, this would be an ideal position for an experienced teaching assistant or a recent graduate. You must also have a good standard of education (5 GCSEs at grade C or above in English and maths.)
Main responsibilities and Duties:
Under the broad guidance and direction of the teacher and/or SENCO: -
1.Deliver and prepare learning support individually and in groups through a range of tasks, for example
a.supporting literacy and numeracy tasks, clarifying and explaining instructions.
b.focusing support in areas needing improvement, both academic and social and contribute to the assessment of pupil progress.
c.supporting pupils to use ICT and other equipment to enhance learning
d.motivating and encouraging pupils to concentrate and to achieve progress.
2.Undertake learning activities with pupils of significantly varying abilities to ensure differentiation and access to the curriculum.
3.Promote and reinforce pupils' self esteem, appropriate behaviour and effort and to guide pupils to become independent learners.
4.Assist teaching staff in the development strategies and the monitoring and evaluation of programmes of work.
5.To provide care and supervision of pupils within the classroom, within the school and where appropriate, outside of the school. There is a specific Special Needs input to support pupils presenting moderate to severe challenges. Support is both on a one-to-one basis and in groups of pupils with some disability, some emotional difficulties, occasional challenging behaviour, including aggression. This will occasionally require immediate decision making without reference to the Teacher. Special skill training may be required.

7.To run small intervention groups or 1:1 remedial sessions as required, overseen by specialist teacher
8.To differentiate work for VI students under the guidance of the advisory teacher
9.Requirement to work with PD student as and when required. To differentiate work, and be involved in personal care of student. Will also be required to attend specific training relevant to PD students.
10.There may be times when you will be required to work later than your normal contractual times, to facilitate the running of a school trip without any additional pay.
The position will start on a long term supply basis through Axcis, however, there is the opportunity for this to become permanent.
