The Deputy Head teacher of the Primary Behaviour Service (PBS) is a key member of the senior leadership team (SLT) that, under the guidance of the Head teacher and Management Committee, has responsibility for the Primary Centre. As part of the SLT they set the strategic direction of the service and drive the whole service self evaluation and improvement planning cycle. They are able to demonstrate and deliver outstanding practice, and to motivate and support staff to do the same. They are responsible for the pastoral care of all pupils and their development against the 5 Every Child Matters (ECM) outcomes. They are responsible for the line management and performance management of all teaching staff.
The Deputy Head teacher ensures that Special Educational Needs (SEN) provision is efficiently and effectively managed and that all legal and statutory requirements for learners at PC are met The Deputy Head teacher is PC's designated teacher for child protection and responsible for safeguarding. They ensure that effective child protection procedures and policies are in place and followed by all staff. The Deputy Head teacher has responsibility for co-ordinating the intake of all children into PC and the integration of children into their next educational placement. The Deputy Head teacher will assist in the smooth running of the service at all times, including being responsible for the service in the absence of the Head teacher. The Deputy Head teacher will teach classes of children within PC, according to the needs of the service. The Deputy Headteacher will deal with aggressive and challenging behaviour from children in a firm and sensitive manner, as detailed in our behaviour policy and undertake Physical Intervention, where required, to prevent children causing harm to self or others.
