Home education review welcomed by ASCL
January 20th, 2009Following the government’s launch of a review to streamline home education, the Association of School College Leaders (ASCL) has appealed to parents to welcome the development.
According to the ASCL, parents should not view the move as "an attack" on their right to educate their own children but just a move to ensure that all children are getting the best education.
It is important for the community to take an interest in the education of children as the right to a good education is more important than the right of the parent, says ASCL deputy general secretary Martin Ward.
"The great majority of families that have chosen to educate their children at home have done so for the best of reasons, and strive to give their children the best possible education," he said.
"However, there have been concerns about a small number of cases where this option has been exercised to the detriment of the child."
The review launched by the government will investigate whether home educating parents get the relevant support from local education authorities among other issues.
