Axcis Annual Company Day 2012
We held our second Company Day on July 7th 2012. It was wonderful to have another opportunity to gather staff from our five offices together again, and to remind ourselves of what Axcis stands for and the importance of the work we do. We understand that a career in the education sector is a challenge, but with regular professional development we believe we are enabling ourselves to continue providing the highest quality support for our candidates and clients, and to make a a positive and ongoing contribution to the lives of young people with special needs.
This year’s day was even more action-packed than 2011! We had five guest speakers covering a variety of different topics. Jackie Gordon - Lead Occupation Therapist in East London - spoke to us about the role of an Occupational Therapist in education/the classroom, which everyone found very useful and informative. Lisa Ogden, a Lead Speech and Language Therapist for a south London borough, delivered a a wonderful presentation about the role of a Speech & Language Therapist in education/the classroom. We were also joined by Lorraine Petersen, the CEO of NASEN (the National Association for Special Educational Needs), who spoke to us about the Green Paper in SEN, which is always very well received and followed by many questions from the audience!
The fourth speaker for the day is no stranger to Axcis. Robyn Steward has already delivered Autism seminars to Axcis candidates and will definitely be doing more with us in the future. Robyn spoke to the Axcis staff about Autism Awareness and, as always, gave us a moving yet informative account of what it’s like to grow up with Autism. Robyn was followed by Claire Dorer, CEO of NASS (the National Association of Special Schools), who spent time talking about mental health issues within SEN, which was very well received by the Axcis staff.
With all these wonderful speakers in attendance each one of us left at the end of the day with a head full of facts and a heart full of inspiration. Here’s to next year!
