Krissy, Australian Teacher

Hi Krissy, how many years experience do you have teaching in Australia?

About three years.

What made you want to teach in the UK?

I got a bit tired of my job at home and wanted to explore new territory. I wanted a new experience.

Did you need a Visa? If so, what Visa are you on? How hard was it to get?

I have a working holiday visa. I had no problem at all.

When you arrived did you have friends/family to stay with?

My brother lives in the UK.

How have you found teaching in London? Good points?

I love teaching in London. Although I had a very bad experience in the first eight months of arriving. The agency that I was with was very bad so my experience was very bad but since I’m with Axcis I love it and I love my job so much.

What things should teachers be aware of when planning to come here?

My experience has taught me that you can say so no to work. I guess I was always taught to never say no to work, whatever the circumstances. You do not have to travel three hours to really bad schools, just to have work. I think that people need to know this. Rather wait until the right thing comes along. Don’t feel like you are bound to an Agency because there are so many agencies out there. If I had not left them I would not have discovered Axcis, who has been wonderful to me.

Have you any regrets?

Not entirely. I think just not knowing other people who have taught in London, was a bad thing for me. I would have preferred to have spoken to other people who have had the experience then I could have avoided my bad experience with the last agency I dealt with.

Have you done much travelling (if they have been here a while)? What destinations?

Yeh, a little.

Would you recommend the London experience to other Australian teachers? Why and what have you enjoyed?

Yes, I definitely would. I think it’s a great experience and I am enjoying every moment of it.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Yes. I’m just very happy with Axcis they have been very honest and helpful and they even came to visit me at the school. I think that that’s all you need in an agency.

Thank you for your time Krissy
