Brief History of the IB curriculum/syllabus:
The International Baccalaureate (IB) originated in Geneva, Switzerland in 1968 and has since spread worldwide. It started as a single programme for International students preparing for university but has grown into three programmes catering for students ages 3-19.
Historically the most popular curricula at International schools is the National Curriculum of England and Wales (British International Schools) and the North American curriculum (American International Schools). The IB curriculum however is growing in popularity with over 2800 Schools in more than 138 countries currently offering the IB programmes. Although IB started off in Private International Schools currently more than half of the schools authorised to offer one or more of the 3 programmes are State schools.
The 3 Programmes:
• PYP-Primary Years Programme for ages 3-12
• MYP- Middle Years Programme for ages 11-16
• Diploma Programme for ages 16-19 (Standard or Higher Level)

The theory of knowledge (TOK) is a central element of the Diploma Programme’s educational philosophy and inquiry is made into he different forms and ways of knowing/knowledge. The central question is asked “How do we know?”. Students are made aware of the interpretive nature of knowledge,
