Private international schools exist all over the world - wherever there are expatriate personnel, multi-national corporations or where an education delivered in English is valued, you will find them. Every region, every country and every school is as different as the children you teach - no two are exactly alike.
Our role is to help you decide what opportunities are right for you and our team of experienced international consultants is able to offer invaluable advice and support up to and even after you start your new job abroad.
How we help our teachers
The interview Axcis International will arrange to speak to them either in person or face to face to gather information about you, your education, work history, personal status. We also establish what you want to do abroad and where you want to work.
The search We can provide you with inside information about the schools either through our consultants who form excellent working partnerships with the school and have often spent some time in them.
The support teachers we have placed at the school can also be contacted and are willing to let you know about the school and location, and also their experience with Axcis International, so that you can make an informed decision on whether the school that you have been interviewed by is the right one for you. You still know yourself better than anybody so you need to do some research too, we can just point you in the right direction.
We often have a direct line to the head teacher/principal of the school to get your CV noticed and this is a distinct advantage from applying to an advert yourself.
The Admin
We will also take references, verify credentials, and match you to jobs abroad. We take into account, preferences of schools and benefits packages against your needs and preferences when making recommended matches.
The result We are proud of the work we do and the quality of our matching process, which is why teachers come back to us throughout their career.
Things to consider
Am I the right kind of person? Teaching abroad is a life-changing experience that will help you grow both as a teacher and as a person, but it is not for everyone. One thing for sure is that all schools want their teachers to be confident, professional, and open minded. They should also be well prepared and have done as much research on where they are going as is possible.
Common issues to discuss
• Moving abroad means relocating yourself and those who rely on you. You lose the support structures that you have relied on in the past and this can be stressful.
• Financially, teachers who are supporting more than one dependent child often find it difficult save money and are encouraged to think carefully about their decision especially if their partners are not teachers or they are one parent families.
• In some locations a non teaching partner may find it difficult to find work
• Teaching salaries often reflect the cost of living in that country. However, some teachers need to send money home each month and need to consider their required take home pay, after all taxes and living expenses are paid.
• Whatever your personal situation, your Axcis International consultant can help you find out what is the best country, region and position for you.
What schools want International schools look for international teachers who are not only good educators, but also good travellers. In general, schools look for the following:
• Teacher training from an accredited/recognised university. Most teacher training programmes from the UK, USA, Ireland, Canada, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand fall into this category
• Ideally you will have taught your specialism for at least two years and preferably in the same school.
• Two professional referees able to comment on your teaching and your appropriateness for an international lifestyle and school.
• Native English Speaker
• Flexibility and adaptability
• Complete native-level English fluency is usually required. Speaking another language other than English is great but it is not considered when schools short list their candidates
What schools offer Apart from a fantastic job in a wonderful location schools will often provide successful teachers with the following benefits:
• The standard International Hire Contract is for 2 years and is easily extendable.
• Schools will automatically sponsor your work permit- all the hard work is done by them.
• Flights for you and your dependents at the beginning and end of your contract
• Accommodation for you and your dependents near to the school.
• Private health and medical cover
• End of contract bonus*
• Free schooling for up to two children
